Heidi Gilbert, Minkyu Lee, and Jennifer Hager, all artists under the employ of Disney Feature Animation, storyboarded an animated “Defying Gravity” from Wicked.
eeenteresting. I’ve always been of the opinion that a Wicked movie would be kind of terrible if only because DG would look so ridiculous onscreen and that is like, the heart of the thing, yes? but I had never considered an animated movie before! I can dig it.
(also can i just say that this is the kind of nerdy, great thing these super talented ladies are doing with their free time? so many hearts in my eyes. the biggest of girlcrushes. rock on, women of disney. rock on.)
Okay but seriously, I watched this once and then had to wait a few days before watching it again to give myself time to recover from my heart exploding. I have wanted an animated version of Wicked since idk. SINCE THE IDEA FIRST OCCURRED TO ME, I GUESS. The musical is so cartoony already! It could work!
The only downside I can see to the making of such a film would be that I’m not sure I would ever recover from a heartsplosion of that magnitude. But it would probably be worth it.
Wicked was MADE to be animated. I went through the requisite ~Wicked phase~ somewhere in high school - the book is pretty weird and I can’t say I’ll ever really get it, and the musical has lost its lustre for me, but MAN. An animated film would take all the good parts and sort of make the ridiculous parts finally make sense or at least fit? It’s the perfect solution.

I definitely owned pretty much this exact sweater and many others like it during high school. That chenille-y material was my jam. At least Willow’s isn’t that many sizes too huge for her body. Ugh, self. Would be that this NICE sweater you are wearing now were a time sweater.
But this is mostly to say that What Would Willow Wear is a great blog you should all follow. Many lols.
