started sorting LotR characters, but got bored because they are all freakin’ Gryffindors.  So here are just the hobbits, most diverse in terms of House affiliation and first in my heart anyways:
FRODO BAGGINS—I imagine Bagginses would inherit a place in Gryffindor in the same way Weasleys do, being a bit odd among hobbits in their passions.  Frodo has his Ravenclaw leanings, but he is defined above all by his deep-seated thirst for adventure and quiet bravery.  He never backs down from doing what is necessary, no matter the cost to himself. SAMWISE GAMGEE—I don’t really understand why the Hufflepuff house has not yet adopted Sam as their mascot.  He is the definition of a ‘Puff: deeply loyal (“don’t you leave him” is his primary motivation), simple, down-to-earth.  Everything about him screams Hufflepuff, from his unassuming nature to his profession as a gardener.  Everyone should look to Sam as the ultimate example of a Hufflepuff who still manages to be a big damn hero.MERIADOC BRANDYBUCK—Merry is a toss-up; he could easily be a Weasley twins-type Gryffindor, but his analytical nature still screams “Ravenclaw” to me.  Even in the films, it is apparent that he approaches everything logically (immediately evident in how he remains calm enough to distract the Black Rider by throwing the bag of mushrooms).  Though Merry is immensely courageous and loyal, his level-headed nature is his defining characteristic. PEREGRIN TOOK—Like the Baggins family, I imagine most Tooks would be Gryffindors.  They are an adventurous clan, and Pippin is no exception.  The youngest of the Fellowship, he certainly acts it, but manages to stumble his way to committing true acts of bravery.

I will reblog every one of these things, but this one especially since @alorrainea and I were discussing this the other day. Aww, Merry. What do you do when you get back from your life-changing adventure? You write a linguistics book.

“Grave and thoughtful was her glance, as she looked on the king with cool pity in her eyes. Very fair was her face, and her long hair was like a river of gold. Slender and tall she was in her white robe girt with silver; but strong she seemed and stern as steel, a daughter of kings.” The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

tolkien’s best prose was anything he wrote about eowyn.  just to set that record straight.

Reblogging for truth, and because I miss her.

Click through for the confirmed cast! This announcement has made me a very happy girl indeed.

Please note that Bill Nighy voicing Smaug is a speculated role and has not been confirmed yet!

MARTIN FREEMAN AS BILBO MARTIN FREEMAN AS BILBO MARTIN FREEMAN AS BILBO

Yes. YES.

Rosie Cotton dancing. She had ribbons in her hair. If ever I was to marry someone…it would have been her.
(I just don’t know, you guys. Something has been overcoming me lately, particularly strongly just now. It has been almost six years, maybe longer? I just. I will always love them, SO MUCH.)

Yes, I am with you, Master. And you’re with me. And the journey’s finished. But after coming all that way I don’t want to give up yet. It’s not like me, somehow, if you understand.

Top Five Lord of the Rings Characters | #3: Samwise

Best. Ever.

LOTR and I have a COMPLICATED RELATIONSHIP to put it mildly (ha. haaaaa), but I wouldn’t be the person I am today without it and I will always love it, always. And I will always love Sam. Saaaaaaaam. SAMWISE THE BRAVE.
I’m really glad I’m reblogging this at like three am, I’m feeling some weird things right now.

There is a reason I do not think I will be able to handle watching these movies again for a long time. (lol self, it has already been six years).
Goddammit, Frodo Baggins.

How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on when in your heart you begin to understand there is no going back? There are somethings that time cannot mend some hurts that go too deep that have taken hold.

Elijah Wood, how do you do that with your face, and how does that thing you do with your face do the things it does to my heart?
