ELLE: What’s a typical girls’ night in for Ann and Leslie, and for Amy and Rashida?
Rashida Jones: Are they that different?
Amy Poehler: Oh, God, that’s so depressing! Well, for Ann and Leslie, going over to Ann’s house.
RJ: Ann cooking. Definitely some talking. There’s a lot of celebration of friendship.
AP: We’d watch Fried Green Tomatoes.
RJ: Lady movies.
AP: And a night in for Amy and Rashida is the top of the Palms casino…
RJ: High rolling…
AP: Splitting a bottle with Jay-Z. Just sitting in a booth counting our money.

30 Days Of Female Awesome Meme, Day Five: Favorite Female Character Characters On A Male-Driven Show
Sora Takenouchi, Hikari Yagami, Mimi Tachnikawa, and Miyako Inoue
Cheating! But whatever. Can you get any more male-driven than a shounen anime? Well, you can, kinda. Digimon picked up the slack a little in later seasons, but season one was very Why Come Only Two Girls? Kari didn’t even show up until things were winding down. And then season two introduced…only one more.
Despite their scarcity, though, all Digiladies are super awesome and well-drawn. I love that they’re not carbon copies of each other - no two of them would react in any way the same in any situation. Sora is responsible and athletic and nurturing, Team Mom all the way who forgets to look out for herself sometimes too. Mimi starts out a bit of a spoiled brat, but grows into a fiercely loyal and generous person who knows how to have a good time (and a killer sense of style!). Miyako! There are not enough ladies like Miyako out there, still. She is such a huge, unabashed nerd who wears her emotions totally on her sleeve and is very intelligent but also totally gregarious and silly.
And Kari. OH KARI. My forever girl. Quiet and wise, with a snarky sense of humor and the biggest heart. I LOVE THEM ALL. I love that they have interests and hobbies and stuff that they get up to, that they are all kind of big dorks (like all Digikids) and super good friends.
Especially that last part. They each have unique relationships with each other, in every combination, that have nothing to do with dudes whatsoever! AMAZING. I know some so-called “adult” shows that could learn from this.
I ain’t even ashamed I still love Digimon. It’s fun and delightful and sweet, and makes me feel good, like these ladies here.
(Tragically, after much searching, I could not find a picture that wasn’t terrible with all four in the same frame. I’M SORRY, MIYAKO.)
- BRITTA | Although she’d probably like to be considered a Ravenclaw (or even a Slytherin), Britta’s main problem is that she cares. Too much. She tries to stamp down on those overly empathetic thoughts and focus on those that apply to politics and the environment instead. But really, beneath her hardened shell, she just wants others to care as much about her as she does them.
- ABED | He studies people like they’re the movies and television shows he loves so much. He uses his moderate intellect to focus in on understanding the same human interaction that escapes his instincts from picking up on and in turn knows and predicts people’s reactions/thoughts/feelings so accurately it’s spooky. He’s unwittingly hilarious, as well.
- JEFF | Lied about being qualified to be a lawyer.
- TROY | Friendly and adventurous. Although he’s normally fairly laid back, when a life-threatening or generally comical situation calls for it, he steps up his game and has the courage to persevere as long as he’s physically able to (so long as the Soul Train awards aren’t on).
- ANNIE | Although her ambitions put her dangerously near Slytherin territory at times, she’s a brainiac at heart. She enjoys learning and studying, whether that’s from her friends or her schoolwork. She tries to enthuse others into what’s a natural predilection for her, but is usually unmatched in her passion for essay questions and exam cramming.
- PIERCE | Although he’s good-natured, at his core, and eager to please and be pleased, he’s still too difficult to definitively pin down. He’s a little bit of everything while not being anything other than self-involved on a consistent basis, yet lacks the cunning and ambitions that might otherwise place him in Slytherin. So, he’s the eternally envious of others, as usual with one foot in the door but no invitation to the party.
- SHIRLEY | She’s warm and fair and honest (more so than most, at least). She mothers the group and keeps people kind and respectful of herself and others. She’s protective and caring towards everyone’s unique point of view.
- ALSO | Chang - Slytherin, Dean - Hufflepuff, Slater - Ravenclaw, Duncan - Ravenclaw, Vaughn - Hufflepuff, Leonard - Slytherin.
